Getting your music into LOCAL

LOCAL plays audio files that are already on your iPhone or iPad. It doesn't stream music, and it doesn't download music from the internet.

  1. Save your audio files to the Files app or iCloud Drive.
  2. Open LOCAL and go to Library.
  3. Tap the import button, then choose Import Audio Files.
  4. Pick your files. LOCAL copies them into its own folder and reads their title, artist, album and artwork.

Supported formats: MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, AIFF, CAF, MP4 and MOV.

Common questions

Is LOCAL really free?

Yes. No advertising, no subscription, and nothing is locked. Every feature is available to everyone.

What do the contributions do?

They're optional one-time tips that support development. They unlock nothing, because everything is already free, and they're never required.

Does LOCAL need an internet connection?

No. Playback works completely offline. The only online feature is lyrics lookup, which you can turn off in Settings.

Where is my library stored?

Entirely on your device. Your music, playlists and listening history are never uploaded, and no account is required.

What happens if I delete a song in LOCAL?

It removes LOCAL's imported copy. Your original file elsewhere is never affected.

Can I import a Spotify playlist?

You can use a playlist as a reference list, but LOCAL can't read your Spotify account, and Spotify's offline downloads can't be imported because they're protected. Only import files you're authorised to keep.

A contribution didn't appear in the app

Purchases are verified by the App Store. If you were charged but the app didn't record it, open Support LOCAL again with a connection so the transaction can be re-checked, or use Report a Problem on your Apple account.
